A curiously gifted part-time dabbler in hi-tech gismos, Samuel Swift devises a machine that can surreptitiously compel people to tell the truth in response to any question asked of them. Initially naively idealistic about the uses to which he can put the device, he soon discovers it has more potential than he at first realised.
That's his second mistake (his first was using it of course) but he has some way to go before he realises that, and why, by which time it is too late to do anything about it.
