He was a hard-working man, an icon in his own right. He carried on, as he always had done, and wanted to make love just as most people do. But not quite… There was something about him that made him different. His affection for her was strange, and he was stuck in a pattern of behaviors that were inflexible. The problems were piling up. His wife developed ways of dealing with the issue, and so it went on. He got worse, and chaos evolved. At the same time he became more easily managed.

The Non-stop lover was a patient I met several years ago. His illness illustrates the many ways in which a brain disease may manifest itself. As I hope to convey to you through the stories of this book, there is most often a thin line between harmony and chaos, between function and dysfunction, between normal and disease. This book contains stories about patients that I have met. This is their story.

The Nonstop Lover and Other Stories from my Practice as a Psychiatrist edition by Magnus Sjogren Professional Technical eBooks

If most of us find it difficult to identify a mental illness, how can we expect to know what to do when loved ones suffer from such illnesses? It might take a long time to realize that someone you know is suffering from a brain-related illness. What might seem like a refusal to follow new instructions or an inability to change from routine might be a hint at an underlying problem that needs expert attention.
This book gives a clear description of the changes that occur to these patients and at the same time describes how the lives of the families and colleagues of the patients also change. Another point that Dr Magnus Sjögren clears up is that it is usually very easy to confuse one illness for another when it comes to brain-related disorders.
With overlapping symptoms and the different responses to different situations, I thought that it was age that was taking its toll on my best friend who lived a few blocks from my home. Little did I know that he was suffering from a mental illness. I wish I had read this book earlier. It took a whole year for us to realize that what was troubling our friend was nothing to do with age.
The expert comments on different scenarios go a long way in helping the reader choose the best course of action when dealing with people with mental illness. This book is a life changer. It’s highly recommended for everyone – because you never know, what you are calling age could turn out to be a mental illness.

Interesting book. I liked the stories very much. Especially the one on the person with Huntington in which speed seemed to decrease his problems, his symptoms. It also seems to me that the author writes with a lot of compassion, with empathy for his patients and their spouses. I like the thought of the author, who is a Psychiatrist, cares that much about his patients. I can clearly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in learning more about these disorders and what happens to the patients as their diseases evolve. This and the spouses struggles and the psychiatrist trying to help and treat the disease. There are a lot of good writing here as well. I just ran through the book.
The title of this book is certainly an attention-grabbing one, but its subtitle clearly explains that this is not a racy, sex-charged story. Instead, The Non-stop Lover is one of several patients exhibiting personality disorders who are seen by the author, Dr. Magnus Sjogren, a respected Swedish psychiatrist. Dr. Sjogren says, "there is a thin line between harmony and chaos..." and that the stories he's about to reveal are of patients who got "lost at sea." The book details some of his most fascinating cases and is told not in a clinical way but rather in a way that makes psychiatric patients human. The fact that the stories are all true makes them all the more chilling and riveting. Each patient seems very ordinary on the surface - a postman, a construction worker, a soldier, a criminal investigator, a high school counselor. Yet below the surface, these and other patients began exhibiting highly unusual symptoms and activities. The brain is a fascinating topic, and this book is an intriguing and well-written glimpse inside brains gone wrong, and how a psychiatrist attempts to handle them.Highly recommend this!
Heart moving short stories.
Very interesting and down-to-Earth stories from his practice as a Psychiatrist. I couldn't stop Reading until the book was finished!
Read it!!!
We can all suffer from mental illness. How it shows is described vividly in the book The Non Stop Lover. The psychiatrist Magnus Sjögren has selected eight of his confrontations with individuals that have difficulties in their way of understanding their world around them and in their way to relate to others. The descriptions are content rich made in an everyday English that open the text for others than those who are familiar with psychiatric terms. Everyone can read the book and either recognize oneself or some people in the circle of acquaintances. Each of the cases presented ends with a reflection in which the psychiatrist comes forward. These sections are especially helpful for students of psychiatry and psychology. Well done Sjögren!
